Facial Trauma

An injury to your face, jaw or teeth?

Falls, sports and road accidents are common causes of facial injury. If the injury is recent, go to the nearest A&E. Warning signs include:

  • Your teeth no longer meet the way they used to
  • Numbness of the lip, cheek or chin
  • Swelling or bruising around the eye or cheekbone
  • A tooth knocked out, loosened or broken

Facial Fracture and Jaw Injury Treatment in Singapore

Emergency and planned treatment of jaw, cheekbone and eye-socket fractures and dental injuries.

Injuries We Treat

  • Fractures of the lower jaw (mandible)
  • Fractures of the upper jaw (maxilla), cheekbone and eye socket
  • Teeth that are knocked out, loosened or fractured
  • Soft-tissue injuries of the face and mouth

Emergency Care

Dr. Loo treats facial injuries at Mount Elizabeth Orchard Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Farrer Park Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital, Parkway East Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. If you have a facial injury, go to the nearest A&E; the emergency team will call the on-call specialist.

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, hold it by the crown, rinse briefly, and try to replace it in the socket — or keep it in milk — and seek care immediately.

Treatment

Many fractures are repaired through incisions inside the mouth using small titanium plates and screws, restoring the bite and facial contour. Dr. Loo contributed to the Atlas of Operative Maxillofacial Trauma Surgery.
